Ghana adopts the US “Fusion Centers” model for improving security at its borders

Ghana has officially inaugurated on 22 January 2020, with the assistance of the US Government, its first National Border Fusion Center, a collaborative effort between the security agencies of the country aimed at improving their capacity to address common security challenges via the sharing of information and intelligence.

Container security and protection of the Supply Chain From Covert Attacks

Cargo containers are an attractive target for criminal organisations because of the value of the goods they carry, and due to the fact that they can be used as a trojan horse, i.e. as a vehicle for introducing weapons or explosives in a country. Electronic cargo seals (e-seals) using Radio-frequency Identification (RFID) technology are the most effective devices for securing containers, but they are also expensive, and this is why most of traders today still prefer to adopt more traditional solutions like the bolt seal and single-loop cable seal.

New report identifies sectors with major opportunities and challenges for sustainable development in Africa

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia is developing an Africa strategy to guide Estonia’s development cooperation with the African continent. Africa receives great prominence in the EU agenda, as this institution currently provides around 40% of total Official Development Assistance (ODA) received by the African continent, absorbing approximately one third of the budget that the EU allocates to foreign aid. Most of EU member States also are active in bilateral foreign aid initiatives addressed to specific African countries, even though only a few of them (like Germany and Ireland) have developed a comprehensive policy to guide their strategy for cooperation with Africa.

A country is considered “commodity-dependent” when more than 60 per cent of its total exports consist in primary commodities, the main ones being represented by: 1) agricultural products, 2) minerals, ores and metals, and 3) crude oil, gas and other hydrocarbons in a natural state (not-refined).
