The UNCTAD eRegulations system

The eRegulations system is an e-government system developed by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to assist governments of developing and less developed countries in promoting public awareness on a wide range of administrative procedures, with the aim of facilitating business, trade and investment activities in their territories.

Accessible through a single web platform, the eRegulation system offers an easy and step-by-step access to procedures relating to enterprise creation and operation, tax fulfilments, investments and other procedures, with their legal bases and the indication of the entities involved, requirements and other information.

In many cases, such websites also offer access to import, export and transit procedures, often collected within specific trade portals, while in other countries they are dedicated to procedures applicable within particular cities, like in the case of Cameroon, where this system has been developed in relation to the cities of Douala and Yaoundé.

The various eRegulations portals can also be accessed via a specific web page on the UNCTAD website.

African countries where the system has been implemented include Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Comoros, Ethiopia, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Niger, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania. Members of the East African Community (with the only exception of South Sudan) have developed specific trade portals where import, export and transit procedures are accessible, that can be reached via a common platform.
