On 26 April 2021, the first inaugural session of the Dispute Settlement Body was held at the AfCFTA Secretariat. Article 20 of the AfCFTA Agreement establishes an inter-State Dispute Settlement Mechanism applicable to disputes, defined at art. 1, e) as any disagreement between State Parties regarding the interpretation and/or application of the (AfCFTA) Agreement in relation to their rights and obligations.

Secure parking and rest areas play an essential role in promoting safety conditions along corridors. This kind of facilities allow both travellers and long distance drivers to have breaks at appropriate intervals and fulfil basic needs of road users, such as rest stops, refuelling, restrooms and refreshment. Accordingly, they make long-distance and international transit trips more viable, which otherwise would be inconvenient and difficult, if not infeasible. Hence, they also contribute to trade and transport facilitation along road corridors.

On 17 April 2021, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) presented, at the 39th ECA Committee of Experts of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development held from 17 to 19 March 2021 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, a report with an assessment of the current status of regional integration in Africa.

One of the problems that mainly contributes to the high cost of road transport in Africa are the empty trips that are charged by logistics operators to their customers. This is a consequence of the imbalanced nature of trade flows in Africa, as the continent imports much more of what exports, which is common to all the African corridors.
