The United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT), a subsidiary, intergovernmental body of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) which serves as a focal point within the United Nations Economic and Social Council for trade facilitation recommendations and electronic business standard, is working on a project for the development of a framework/mechanism for development and implementation of Blockchain services infrastructure for improving supply chain efficiency and integrity, to be potentially used globally.

The exchange of intelligence at national, regional and international levels is a critical mechanism employed by Customs authorities to create conditions for more efficient enforcement actions and controls and to secure the optimum use of available resources. To this end, the WCO has established since 1987 a network of “Regional Intelligence Liaison Offices” (RILOs) with the aim of promoting cooperation between Customs administrations that are members of WCO, in relation to the fight to trans-national crimes, through information gathering, analysis and intelligence sharing, as well as through the sharing of best practices and global trends on these crimes. Each participating WCO Member designates a National Contact Point (NCP) of RILO.

Congolese Customs adopt new Electronic Cargo Tracking System for transit goods

After conclusion of a pilot phase launched on 30 October 2019, the new Electronic Cargo Tracking System (ECTS) dubbed "Ekengue" has been officially adopted by Customs in the Republic of Congo. The objective of Ekengue (which means “vigilance” in the Lingala language), is to ensure that goods moving in transit along Congolese road corridors will reach other countries in Central Africa without being diverted to unauthorised places in Congo, so evading the payment of customs duties and other import taxes.
