An integrated intermodal transport network to reduce transit costs in Asia

The UNESCAP (Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific of the United Nations), which is one of the five regional arms of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations (a body that deals, among other things, with the promotion and economic development as well as with the technical and financial assistance to Less Developed Countries), is working on the text of an intergovernmental agreement on dry ports (see the working draft). The document aims to promote the development of a network of dry ports of international importance, in order to improve trade between coastal and inland areas, reducing the transit time for goods especially in the landlocked Countries of Asia. The draft of the agreement will be discussed in a meeting to be held in Bangkok from 20 to 22 June 2012.

Dichiarazione congiunta USA-Giappone sulla sicurezza della catena logistica globale

In data 30 aprile 2012 i governi giapponese ed americano, a conferma del loro impegno a garantire il funzionamento senza interruzioni delle catene logistiche (ossia delle traiettorie che seguono le merci dal loro punto di origine a quello di destinazione) e la protezione di queste ultime contro infiltrazioni terroristiche e criminali, hanno adottato una dichiarazione congiunta con la quale individuano una serie di iniziative il cui scopo è quello di facilitare gli scambi tra i due blocchi commerciali in tutta sicurezza.

“Revenue package” to heal the traffic flow contraction

Trade facilitation plays a vital role for the development of global economies. A reduction in the flow of goods internationally exchanged impact negatively on the revenues of the States (due to the reduced level of duties and other tax collected). In order to balance the revenue collection objective with the facilitation of trade, the World Customs Organisation has developed the "Revenue Package", a collection of guidelines, recomandations and measures to make more efficient and effective the collection of duties by Customs.

Customs controls on goods suspected to infringe Intellectual Property Rights in mere transit trough the UE, a clarification from the EU Commission

The EU Commission has  adopted special guidelines dealing with the problem of those goods (in particular medicines) moving under the transit regime in the EU territory and seized by customs in one of its member States, being covered by a patent right.
